Squaw (Olympic) Valley
Originally, Squaw Valley was home to one of the biggest mining operations in the Tahoe region, until miners moved on to booming towns like Virginia City in western Nevada. Opening in 1949, Squaw Valley Ski resort was the dream of Wayne Poulsen and Alex Cushing. Mr. Cushing was instrumental in persuading the International Olympic committee to choose Squaw Valley to host the 1960 Olympics. It was the first Winter Olympics to be televised live and attracted millions of viewers. Accommodations range from luxury ski-in/ski-out condos at the Village and the Resort at Squaw Creek, to single family homes throughout the valley. Year round you can experience exciting special events and activities in Olympic Valley.
