Donner Ski Ranch
Donner was first discovered as a ski area in 1936 when Jerry Ellis built a rope tow at Lake Mary which was the first ski lift in California. In 1937 the rope tow was moved to what is today Donner Ski Ranch property.
Located on Old Highway 40, Donner Ski Ranch has preserved the simpler skiing experience of the pioneers. Lift lines are rare and even on weekends the slopes generally don’t feel crowded. With 6 chairlifts accessing 460 acres there is a variety of terrain for all abilities. Locals know that Donner Ski Ranch is the Summit’s secret stash on powder days.
